Getting all set up shouldn't have to be a pain. So, we found a way to make this quick and easy while still giving you the best of insights and alerts.
Trust us on this one: taking a quick look here beforehand helps you get the overview you need to make critical decisions before installation. Reviewing this will take about 15 minutes, but boy, is it worth it!
Setup & Kit Placement
You can only set up the devices at your Senior’s place. That way, we know we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be, geographical coordinates and all! The process takes about 60 minutes, then we're smooth sailing.
Sensors are all about location, location, location. The decisions you make here are the most important part of installation!
The Hub
- Make sure there's a power outlet
- Don't place The Hub on the floor or inside a cabinet or closet
- The Hub should be in an open area, up off the ground to maximize connectivity to the Sensors and backup Cellular.
- Optimize location based on these types of connectivity:
- To the Internet: The optimal connection to the internet is wiring The Hub directly to your router using the enclosed Ethernet cable, but if that’s not possible, WiFi will do the trick, too!
For Wi-Fi, choose a location where you know the internet connection is strong. - To our sensors: The Hub is the brain that connects it all, so you might want to keep it somewhat central to where all Motion Sensors and Door Detectors are!
- To cellular: No power or no internet shouldn't mean no insights! The Hub has a SIM card to connect itself to cellular as a backup in case of an Internet or power outage. Cellular signals work best above ground and in open spaces, so give The Hub a nice spot in rooms with windows instead basements or closets.
- To the Internet: The optimal connection to the internet is wiring The Hub directly to your router using the enclosed Ethernet cable, but if that’s not possible, WiFi will do the trick, too!
Door Detectors
The positioning of the sensor (larger piece) and the magnet (smaller piece) are critical to ensuring your Door Detectors function properly.
Here are some helpful tips:
- Door Detectors should be placed on all entry doors that are frequently used to enter and exit the home.
- Do not place the Door Detectors outside as they are not weatherproof.
- Do not place the Door Detectors on interior doors (e.g. bathroom, bedroom). That will give you invalid insights.
- The magnet should align with the small arrow right in the middle of the sensor and they should be spaced about a pencil-width from each other.
- It is important the sides of each piece facing you are level with each other.
- One piece needs to be on the door and the other on the door moulding or frame.
- Do not place the Door Detector on the side of the door with the hinge.
- Place the Door Detectors as high as you can comfortably reach.
- Clean the surface before mounting.
Installing Your Door Detectors
We understand doors and moulding come in all shapes and sizes, and some can be hard to figure out when it comes to installing our Door Detectors. For more details on optimal placement, please see the Door Detector Placement Guide and Door Detector Manuals.
Motion Sensors
Where to place your sensors |
![]() |
Know what Motion Sensors need? Motion! So, make the best of them by placing them in high-traffic areas. Your kit comes with 3 sensors to get you going! We recommend to place in 3 locations where you'll get strong insights:
- The kitchen
- The spot where the Senior spends a lot of time, like the living room
- The main hallway or stairs between the first two spots!
Here's a video if you prefer watching it:
If you’re not getting great insights about your Senior coming & going from the home, try relocating or adding sensors to catch motion on the way to & from the entry doors. This will ensure the system catches motion near the doors, and help it differentiate between your senior opening the door to let the cat out and opening the door to leave the home.
NOTE: Just be sure your sensors aren’t pointed directly AT the doors. The system has a hard time determining what’s happening when motion happens and doors open at the exact same time.
We know you might be worried about a few other things like, sleep and bathroom visits. We got you! If you’re looking to get more insights in those departments, you can always add a few sensors a la carte! If you’re not so sure yet, you can swap the hallway sensor for either of these instead. Motion Sensor Installation Do's and Don'ts
Sensors have a sensitivity range of 30 ft, and can be set up in one of three ways:
- Example 1: Mounted to the walls, in a corner, about as high as you can comfortably reach, using the corner bracket mount. You can use either 2-sided tape or screws provided in Accessory Box. This is our recommended option to capture the most motion.
- Example 2: Mounted flush on the wall, high up, without the corner bracket. You can use either 2-sided tape or screws provided in Accessory Box. This is also recommended.
- Example 3: On a shelf or counter, high up, using the foot bracket. This is only recommended if Sensor is not blocked and will not be knocked over. The Sensor needs to see everything but also needs be stable.

- Avoid mounting near sources of heat such as vents, fireplaces, radiators, or even a very sunny window.
- Avoid places where they might be blocked or moved accidentally.
See the "Mounting" section of the Motion Sensor manual for more information and step-by-step instructions.
Motion Sensor Installation Do's and Don'ts:
Required Sensors and Low Sensor Coverage
If the home is 2,000 square feet or less, the 3 Motion Sensors in your Starter Kit should do. In a larger house, our system, being the good learner it is, may detect low sensor coverage and let you know.
If this happens, we recommend moving a sensor to a more highly trafficked area, or adding more sensors.
